The Way He Liked It. Holzman in Venice, remembering Miles
Written by Giuseppe Mormile - Direttore artistico Venezia Jazz Festival

Alton, Illinois, May 25th, 1926, Miles Davis was born. He would die in Santa Monica in 1991 as a jazz legend. This year, we shall commemorate two anniversaries: the thirtieth year of his passing and his concert of July 24, 1991, which Davis held in Castelfranco Veneto. It was to be his last concert ever and the light guiding the story of Veneto Jazz, the producer of the concert. To celebrate Miles Davies, Veneto Jazz will produce a special concert for the 13th edition of Venezia Jazz Festival.

On July 10, Adam Holzman, Miles Davies’ keyboard player will join Davide Regazzoni and Stefano Olivato (drums and bass, respectively) for the tribute. It will be an unmissable occasion to enjoy music by Holzman, who in 1988 was made art director of the Miles Davis band, after four years together touring the world. Other participants to the Venice Jazz Festival will be pianist Livio Minafra, the winner of TOP JAZZ as leader of the best jazz band of the year. Minafra entered the world of jazz thanks to his wild yet delicate piano sound, which embraces its classical matrix and yet surprises us with dissonant harmonies. We shall find Livio Minafra at Fenice Theatre on July 4th. Also at Fenice, David Helbock will stage a homage to John Williams on July 2nd, while Marco Trabucco and Meraki Expanded project will play on July 7th.
