Language design beyond time and space
Written by Alberto Zava
ImageThe observation of the MercuryHouseOne, the mobile living space thought by Gualtiero Vanelli, planned by Architecture and Vision and realised by GVM, excites several returns and sensations confirming that its essence, not referable to a simple an concrete project-object, is more similar to an activator of ideas.

Its soft shape, embellished by the external coating with Carrara marbles, attracts distant evocations worthy of the best Syd Mead, conveying to the mind not only the futuristic visions of the concept designer in Blade Runner universe, but especially stylistics of some universal ornaments out of time and always actual in the dislocation of an approaching future.

The ideal context of this innovative time machine for concepts is − according to Mare Nostrum Foundation and Marco Nereo Rotelli’s aim − to create a sort of preserving wrapper going beyond time and space and inglobing the concept of language, made of various knowledge symbolically and totally translated by the words of a static, long-lasting and not ephemeral writing. The knowledge is symbolised by ancient idioms, as it happens with the installation called Save the Poetry, on show during the Art Biennale in Piazza Baden Powell at San Servolo island: for example it evokes the mnemonic codes of the Rongo-Rongo tablets at the Easter Island or those typical of the poetry of nomadic peoples in the desert.

As a monolith similar to the one used by Kubrick, the MercuryHouseOne, ‘transmits’ the past to the future and represents the apparently minimal  foray apparently in the linguistic and cultural human continuum; it is «a place-concept, a technological cave for the future men and their knowledge DNA» according to Rotelli’s definition.
The MHO project will start on the next 2nd of September; to complete this moment there will be the special event Night of Light, with international artists and the presentation of the video titled Rongo-Rongo realised by Mattia Listowski, a young French video maker, with interventions by Edoardo Sanguineti.
