The night before exams
Written by Redazioneweb
artnight.jpgOn the 18th of June, in Venice, there is an appointment which should not be missed. The city will celebrate the first edition of Art Night Venezia, the first "sleepless night" in Venice’s history. This is a definite answer to the infinite banal spots and to the stereotypes which often, unjustly, afflict Venice, classifying her as just a museum city, embalmed and dying. To the contrary: on the 18th of June there will be a demonstration of the energy of a young Venice, a city of young people, able to create its own future. This Venice, today, strives to be a vital example, as it was in the past. It is emblematic that the force of this event is found in the heart of Ca’ Foscari, which, tenaciously, has conceived and organized Art Night Venezia, involving the institutions of the city: museums, galleries, public and private spaces, musical institutions in a mix without precedents. Thus will come to life the "sleepless night" which has art as its propelling force: art capable of leading Venice into the future. Art in all its declinations: music, cinema, literature, and poetry will all be represented worthily by means of the myriad appointments on the calender. The main museums and collections will prolong their opening hours; there will be guided visits, workshops and the use of space or buildings which are often not open to the public.

Ca’ Foscari, fulcrum of the night, will be the stage for the Arcani contemporanei by Anita Sieff (from the 17th until the 24th, in the main courtyard), for Tiziano Scarpa and for the trumpet player Massimo Donà, who will narrate a story of words and note (9:30 p.m., at Ca’ Foscari); and then for Alberto Toso Fei with his “Segreti del Canal Grande” (11:30 p.m., in the small courtyard), for Gianrico Carofiglio  and his readings (9 p.m.), and much more beside (see the programme). The project conceived by Professor Silvia Burini, Delegate of the Rector  for relations with local cultural institutions, shared and supported by the Municipality of Venice, is flourishing thanks to the collaboration of highly prestigious political and cultural institutions, in recognition of the merit of Venice. From sunset until midnight, art will set the night free, chasing away from Venice the phantoms of its alleged immobility.
