Close encounters Contemporary art within my grasp
Written by Chiara Casarin

pgrassi.jpgContemporary art, everybody knows, is not democratic. Essays and publications each highlight the incomprehensibility of what the plurality of nowadays contemporary art offers. Seems that just a members-only elite, intellectually endowed, has the privilege to access to the contents, the meanings, the installation and videos that animate the most important exhibitions.

Who will offer escape from these fogs of interpretation and who will promote to the general public the reasons of contemporary? “L’opera parla” evenings maintain their crowded schedule. In November meetings will be held at Palazzo Grassi, all Wednesdays at 5 pm and all framed by monumental and colourful Contaminations by Joana Vasconcelos.

First rendezvous this month is on the 2nd, Gianfranco Quaresimin, teacher of Engraving Techniques and History of Graphic Art at Venice Fine Arts Academy, will be speaking. On Wednesday 9th Antonio Somaini, teacher of film montage at Venice IUAV University, will talk about cinema techniques in Cinématisme. Il montaggio prima del cinema. Opening the rendezvous with the artists we have Adrian Ghenie, at Palazzo Grassi on the 16th.

On Wednesday 23rd Il bestiario dell’arte has Venice universities’ professors come back to discuss art, this time it’s Xavier Barral-Altet’s turn, teacher of Medieval Art History at Ca’ Foscari. Ending November’s meetings will be Saverio Simi de Burgis, teacher of Contemporary Art History and History and Methodology of Art Critique at Venice Fine Arts Academy.
