Checkpoint Palazzo Grassi. Mikhailov and Vezzoli, the world belongs to you
Written by Mariachiara Marzari

vf_1.jpgThe exposition still underway at Palazzo Grassi, is inviting the public to explore the universes of artists of different origins, proposing reflection on the dizzying rythms of the modern world in all its turmoil. Each artist is presented in a space which is dedicated to him, yet at the same time open to the others. Comparison and dialogue, therefore, which are incarnated not only in the works but also in the artists who are invited every month to narrate their creations at Palazzo Grassi.

January has begun with Boris Mikhailov, an absolute master of Russian conceptual photography. Mikhailov, in his works, succeeds in evoking the social changes which have shaken Russia following the fall of Communism.

Beyond the curtain, almost as in an artistic cold war, Democracy by Francesco Vezzoli examines the strategies of political communication, creating the electoral videos of two diametrically opposed candidates, interpreted by the actress Sharon Stone and the author-philosopher Bernard-Henry Lévy. With irony, the artist places upon the scene all of the clichés utilized by the mass media in order to make public personages' lives fascinating. Thus, Francesco Vezzoli is being eagerly awaited in Venice, where he will arrive in February, coming directly from his latest exposition-provocation in Paris in collaboration with Prada, 24 h Museum; in this exposition, thanks to the social network stages, he has made it possible for everyone to transform their own portraits into masterpieces.
