|Once upon a time in America. A retrospective of William Merrit Chase|
|Written by M.M.|
An exhibition we have been waiting for quite some time, for the first time in Italy and in Europe, will open at Ca’ Pesaro on February 11. A co-production of The Phillips Collection of Washington, DC, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Terra Foundation for American Art, and Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, William Merritt Chase (1849–1916): an American Impressionist Master is an exhibition about the art and the influence that the American artist had in the 1880s and the early 1900s. Chase travelled to London, Paris, Holland, and Venice, where he studies the maestros of the past and meets his contemporaries. His art is original and very personal: it grew to archetypal standing for the following generations.
