|Quirky Beings. Glass art by Sottsass. Skill & Art|
|Written by Livia Sartori di Borgoricco|
Curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, exhibition Ettore Sottsass: il vetro is the last chapter of Le Stanze del Vetro, a multi-year project that since 2012 produces shows of international glass artists. This exhibit is dedicated to Sottsass’ glass art, one hundred years since his birth and ten from his death.
The Italian designer met glass in Murano, naturally, and is acquainted with the material by the late Forties, although the bulk of his production had been made in the Seventies. Annabelle Selldorf Studio in New York designed the exhibition halls, which house more than 200 pieces, largely from the collection of Ernest Mourmans, a Dutch entrepreneur, gallery owner, and collector. Don’t miss the 21 glass sculptures made in 1999 for the Sheik of Qatar’s Millennium House.
