A comedy in five acts, La Venexiana (The Venetian Lady) plays on risqué business and eroticism like few would expect from literature dating 1535. The masterpiece lives again on Carnival Days, thanks to an adaptation by director Giuseppe Emiliani who turned it into an ambulant show at Palazzo Grimani.

Inspired by current affairs and gossip, La Venexiana was a revolutionary work for its time. In the play, it is two women who lead the game as subject, not as a mere object, of erotic desire, of lust. The intriguing story sees two Venetian noblewomen, both unsatisfied in their love life. The first one, Anzola, because of widowhood; the second, Valiera, because her husband is a powerful yet absent politician. The two find their instrument for pleasure in an adventurer, Iulio.
