The taste of others. Memphis, revolution in an object
Written by Sara Bossi

mempgis-plastic-field-fondazione-berengo-designboom-14.pngMemphis, other than the city in Tennessee, is a design group centred around the figure of Ettore Sottsass. Back in the 1980s, Sottsass and his fellow designers wanted to revolutionize their practice, break away from habit, and overturn the creative, as well as commercial, logic of repetitive, empty production.

Furniture, rugs, pottery, glass craft, and fabrics they created are now exhibited at Fondazione Berengo, Palazzo Franchetti.

The exhibition is a selection of the most important creations by the members of Memphis from the period 1981–1987. A kaleidoscope of shapes, bright colours, and new materials for accessible, concrete design. A celebration of normality in mass society.
